Jennie + Richie: The Paris Proposal

The Proposal

Richie proposed to Jennie last Christmas while on a trip to Paris. “When we came back to the hotel, there were candles, flowers and balloons everywhere!” said Jennie. “Until that moment, I thought he wasn’t going to propose. But he surprised me! He got down on one knee and he was nervous and he actually forgot to ask me to marry him. I’ve been waiting all my life to say yes, but he didn’t ask. He knew I would say yes, so he put the ring on my finger. I didn’t want to ruin the moment by saying anything.”

Richie said he was nervous proposing, especially since the fabulous rooftop proposal he had planned fell through a couple days before boarding their Paris flight. “I had to hatch a new plan. It was a little bit of a challenge. I didn’t really prepare a speech for when I proposed, I just spoke from the heart.”

The Ring

Jennie’s elegant engagement ring has a 3 carat round brilliant set with four claw prongs. The prongs meet the tips of the center stone’s star facets, a beautiful technical detail! An underhalo design and round brilliant diamonds set three-quarters way down add more personalized features to the ring. Très chic!

When asked what she loves most about her ring, Jennie said, “I love how my ring is my personality and style. I am a traditional girl that likes timeless styles. I see the beauty in simplicity, but also love that wow factor of boom! That big rock in middle.”

Jennie and Richie designed their ring together. When asked if she enjoyed designing her ring, Jennie said, “I wouldn’t say enjoy. I was probably a pain as I asked a lot of questions. I’m the type of person that likes to weigh all my options. Funny story, after wearing my ring for a couple months, I had it redesigned because I then knew what I liked. It’s now perfect!”

Richie said, “I think the process was pretty fun. I liked the flexibility of customizing our ring after seeing all our options. I thought it was cool seeing the wax model before our ring was made. Jennie had a lot of questions and I think it was nice having Jenny [Diamonds Forever] walk us through why certain things would or would not work as far as structural integrity. We fine-tuned everything back and forth a few times. I think it was helpful because each time we got a new perspective. It was a lot more work, but it really paid off.”

Finding Forever

Jennie and Richie will be getting married next fall. When asked what her favorite thing about Richie is, she said, “It’s his sense of humor, which leads to why he is my best friend. We just get along surprisingly well. I never in a million years thought I would find someone so compatible.”

Richie said he knew Jennie was the one early on. “Honestly, Jennie hates when I say this because she is more of an analytical person, but I could just feel it. It was just a gut feeling from the first time we met. I really enjoyed spending my time with her. We mesh really well together. I could see myself with her for the rest of my life without getting bored. Without hesitation.”

Richie’s favorite thing about Jennie is how she challenges him to be a better person. “I appreciate that so much about her. We talk about a lot of things and she challenges me to look at things from different perspectives. She helps broaden my views. She also makes me want to take care of her.”

Jennie and Richie’s Tips

Jennie’s advice about proposals is to let it be all about him. “Since the ladies get all the attention on the wedding day, at least give the proposal to the guy. Let him do it how he wants. Of course, give him some ideas so it’s considered in their planning. But ultimately let that day be about him.”

Richie’s advice about designing an engagement ring is to “bring your significant other early on to look at rings to see what they envision. As much as we think we know what they really want, it usually turns out to be something different. The first time we went in to Jenny [Diamonds Forever] to get the ring designed, I really thought she wanted a simpler design and that’s what we ended up going with. After a bit, Jennie realized she wanted something similar but a little different. But all that time we looked at rings before really helped so we didn’t go in blind.”

❤️ Thank you so much Jennie and Richie for sharing your story. What a dreamy proposal!
